Our Story
Mathilda and David first met in Buea, as they both enrolled in the Catholic University of Buea, becoming its first ever batch of students. They belonged to different faculties, but with very similar schedules and a rather small campus, their paths crossed often.
As fate would have it, they found themselves in the same residence in their second year and everything seemed in place for a budding friendship. They grew fond of each other but at the time, it was never anything more than a friendship! Nothing more EVER crossed their minds.
The following year, David moved to another residence and their increasingly diverging school schedules meant that they interacted less often. Although they never really grew less fond of each other, their friendship dwindled, and they eventually lost contact after they left university in 2014.
A few years later, David reached out to Mathilda, and they were both so glad to reconnect. They talked often from then and eventually David started to fall… slowly but surely, yet Mathilda had no clue for quite some time. They clearly enjoyed each other’s company, but David knew all too well not to rush anything.
When all was in place for Mathilda to travel, it became clear to them that there was a connection, but they made no commitment as they parted ways. That did not keep them from sharing their first kiss on the day she left the country. We may never be able to ascertain who initiated that kiss…
David eventually moved to Canada. Not so long after that, David knew it was time to make another step forward. He planned one of their dinner dates at the CN tower 360 restaurant in Toronto and devised a plan with their hostesses to surprise her with a proposal. It was a beautiful spring evening at a table on the restaurant’s rotating platform, with a panoramic view on Toronto’s beautiful landscape. When time for dessert came, the hostesses brought the ring and David got down on one knee and nervously popped the question as Mathilda giggled in amazement… She said Yes!
After years of daily phone calls, a couple of visits to Cameroon on Mathilda’s part, laughter and growth they decided to get into a committed relationship. David then realised it was hard staying apart so he decided to relocate to Canada. But before doing that, together with his family, he formally introduced himself to Mathilda's incredible mum, Mummy Kate, who already suspected that Mathilda and David had more than just a platonic relationship. David still remembers something she said after he made his intentions known: "Baby has been telling me you both are only friends" and laughed.
As they embark on this new journey together, they are filled with excitement and anticipation for the future. They are grateful for the support and love from their family and friends who have been with them every step of the way.
Their story is just beginning, and we can't wait to see where this beautiful journey takes them. Thank you for being a part of their special day and for celebrating the love that brought them together.
